Intro Designer

Intro Designer is a universal iOS application developed for the iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, and iPod Touch. Intro Designer is available in the iOS App Store for only $2.99.

Intro Designer is an application that will allow you create video intros on your iOS device that can be exported to your camera roll and then opened in another application like iMovie or Pinnacle Studio so that you can add an intro to a video that you might be editing for upload to a service like YouTube or Vimeo. Most of the templates that are offered are quite generic and you cannot create you own template but you can add your own personal text and messages to your intro video. You could also use Intro Designer to create an "outro" for you video with your website domain or asking your viewers to subscribe to your YouTube channel, etc.

Intro Designer offers 13 different categories to choose from. In each of these categories you will have different themes to choose from to download to your iPad. Some of the themes might be in more than one category though. All of the themes are different lengths in time, some are 10 seconds long others might be as long as 30 seconds. Each category has a different number of themes to choose from, one category may only have 2 themes while another may have up to 6. The categories are as follows.

Categories

  • Celebrate
  • Family
  • Simple
  • Sports
  • Abstract
  • Music
  • Love
  • Birthday
  • Holiday
  • Nature
  • Cinematic
  • Shows
  • Travel

Be aware that downloading these themes to your iOS will use up your storage space on your device. Then remember when you export your footage to your camera roll you will now have this video in 2 places on your device using twice the storage. If you import that footage into another application that same footage will then be in 3 spots on your device using 3x the storage. If you do not have a lot of storage space you can delete your footage from the Intro Designer application after you have exported to help save storage space!

Intro Designer is a really fun application and if you do not own any motion creating software on your computer and you want to add some professionalism to your videos then check out Intro Designer.

Do you jailbreak your iOS devices?

This is just a short video on if you Jailbreak your iOS devices or not? I recently did but I am honestly not seeing any compelling reason to have done so. Is it nice to take total control over a device I purchased? Yes. Is it something I would recommend to others? No.

I am interested in hearing why you Jailbreak your devices, what JB apps do you like or recommend?

If you don't Jailbreak I'd like to know why not? Are you against it? Don't want to void a warranty?

Please comment on my YouTube page where I have this video uploaded: LINK HERE.

If you do not use YouTube then let me know on Twitter @iCrizzo.

Temple Run 2

Another terrific game from Imangi Studios. If you have ever played Temple Run 1 then you will want to grab Temple Run 2 as it features new characters and an improved graphics engine. Temple Run 2 uses the Unity Game Engine to power the graphics and gameplay. Overall TR2 is the same as the first game but now also includes a few twist to the gameplay such as sliding down cables and riding in mine carts. Overall Temple Run 2 is a great game and highly recommend giving it a download, after all it is free to download.

YOU DON’T KNOW JACK LANDS IN THE APP STORE TODAY

“In May, we launched the Facebook version of YOU DON’T KNOW JACK looking to combine the party-atmosphere of console and PC gaming to the asynchronous social gaming space where people could play wherever they want,” said Harry Gottlieb, founder of Jellyvision Games and inventor of YOU DON’T KNOW JACK. “After six months of tweaking the Facebook game, we’re ready for the small screen, starting with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.”

YOU DON’T KNOW JACK on Facebook, six months past launch, has been received with great critical acclaim and won the “Best Social Game” category for the 2012 SPIKE TV Video Game Awards last week. The iOS version will have persistent play with users of the Facebook version and all key functionality remains the same between apps.

Players of the mobile version can choose to play in guest mode or via Facebook Connect, the latter of which brings party-style play to mobile in three important ways. First, players are automatically matched against their Facebook friends who have already played that specific episode, either on iOS or Facebook. Second, a player is provided a direct option to challenge other Facebook friends at the end of every episode. And third, all players may share results, brag and taunt friends through Facebook, bringing the same fun experienced during a game of YDKJ on the couch into the gameplay experience.

YOU DON’T KNOW JACK will constantly produce new content that engages players with questions on current pop culture and news players are discussing on Facebook, tying gameplay into the social experience more than any previous game.

Players on iOS will access the same content as those using the Facebook version. Cookie Masterson, the game’s popular and sassy host is back, as is the game’s core structure, with outrageous questions that range from Mozart to Psy. The game will be free-to-play with free games provided frequently. Users can also win free games through achievements, and multi-token packs are available for purchase.

This new version of YOU DON’T KNOW JACK represents Jellyvision Games’ latest in a history of innovations within the interactive trivia space. When YOU DON’T KNOW JACK first launched in 1995, it was the first game to truly immerse the user into a fully interactive game show experience, making players feel like the game’s host was talking directly to them. The company also created Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for PC, which at the time was the fastest-selling PC game in history, and the TV game show Smush, which aired on the USA Network. To date, the YOU DON’T KNOW JACK franchise has sold more than 5 million units and generated $100 million in revenue with versions for CD-ROM, consoles, iOS and tabletop.

Letterpress for iPad

This was my original review of Letterpress, the game seems to have been fixed since I first wrote this:

I have had to completely close the app and relaunch it at least 30x today. Probably more. I did not have this issue with the free version of the game, it was only when I upgraded to the paid version. I am not sure if this is some sort of server issue? Maybe I have too many games going at once? Just a thought. Having more than 2 games is the entire reason I upgraded via the In-App Purchase though, if I can't have more than a few games going at once then maybe a limit needs to be placed on the app? If it is not a server issue then maybe it is a Game Center issue? I have not had a problem with Game Center games before though.

The gameplay is fun, the app is beautifully designed. That is not the issue, the issue is the game is pointless if it cannot connect to Game Center. Seems like it has this problem every 5 minutes. Then when you relaunch the game it takes 3-4 minutes for it to update before you are able to do anything in the game. This is a multiplayer game so if I can't connect to Game Center then I just wasted $0.99!

Issues I am having:

  • Constantly have problems connecting..

  • Can't create new matches even after paying the $0.99 to upgrade the free version...

Hopefully this is something that will get addressed in an update, until then I have deleted the app from iPad because there is no sense having something on there that I can not enjoy!

You can visit the Letterpress website for more information about the game.

Vodio for iPad

Vodio is a universal iOS video magazine application. Vodio is a really cool Flipboard like application for iOS but only instead of news it is all videos. Vodio has social integration built right into the application, you can sign in with your YouTubeTwitter, or Facebook account. When you log in with your social network accounts you will get a panel with all the videos your friends and family members have shared on those networks. But you don't need a social account to use the application, you can add panels to your Vodio stream by picking topics that interest you. I enjoy my iPad so I have panels set up for iPad Apps and iPad news videos.

There are a ton of different channels to choose from, not just technology. Some of the channels include:

  • Entertainment

  • Comedy

  • Sports

  • Movies

  • Apps

  • Tech

  • Music

  • Cool & Inspiring

  • News

  • Viral

  • Celebrities

  • Automotive

  • Science

In each of these channels are sub-channels, take the Game channel for instance. It features topcis that include: Xbox, Machinima, Electronic Arts, GameSpot and more..

This is a superb application, especially on the iPad and now that iOS 6 has removed the YouTube app. Vodio is the best way to not only experience YouTube but to also find more great video content on your iPad.

Two things I wish the developers would consider adding:

  1. Vimeo - If I could get my Vimeo feed in the app I would be set to go.

  2. Search - I would like to be able to search for videos by tags or topics.

Even without those features this is probably the best video application I have used on the iPad. I have a couple of apps that I currently use but I have a feeling they will not see much use from here on out. Vodio is free in the App Store and to be honest if you do not give it shot you would have to be insane, it is a great app, go download it. Now.

Wipeout by Activision (review)

Wipeout by Activision is a terrific universal iOS game for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. It is based on the hit ABC television series, Wipeout. Wipeout is an obstacle course themed, time trial based, action game. Wipeout is highly addictive and rather nerve-racking at the same time. The obstacle courses presents an extremely tough challenge when racing against the clock, especially those pesky Big Balls. That is the addictive part, even though I wanted to smash my iPad into 20 pieces, I also wanted to keep trying to get past each level as they are very challenging.

Gameplay

Wipeout is similar to Pitfall, another Activision title that also appears on iOS devices. In Pitfall, the game moves forward for you, but in Wipeout you control the players forward and backward movements. In Wipeout, you compete against computer players in a race against the clock to make it through the obstacle course with the quickest time. If you get knocked on your fanny during the game, the game is not over. In fact, you get rewarded with Style Points as long as your player doesn’t take a splash in the water below. If you do get knocked in the pool, you will start from where you took a dive at. Once out of the pool your player will be dripping wet ready to take the course head on again. When you get wiped-out into the pool, below you have the option of watching the super slow motion replay of your worst nightmare. Reach the end of the course in record time and receive the game coins that can be used to purchase unlocks and new courses. There is also a Time Trial mode in Wipeout where you can compete to finish courses in record time and earn some Ballsy Bucks to purchase even more unlocks.

The Controls

I have never been a huge fan of the on screen controls of the iPad to move the players forward or backwards.  It always feels like my thumbs are sliding over way too far and sometimes it makes the iPad uncomfortable to hold because of that. So when I first downloaded Wipeout and watched the tutorial on how to play, I was skeptical of the controls. After playing 5 or 6 rounds of Wipeout though the controls started to feel natural and I realized that the controls didn’t require much thinking at all, and the maneuvers performed fairly easily. To control your player, you use the lower left portion of the screen to move your player forward or backwards. Push your thumb slightly forward to move forward and slide your thumb backwards to move backwards or to stop running. You can also slide your left thumb down to get your player to duck under obstacles. Your right thumb is used for jumping and diving. You can swipe upward with your thumb to perform a jump or slide down to perform a diving maneuver to get under obstacles that appear in your way.

The Players

Wipeout features 5 unlockable characters that you can purchase using either Ballsy Bucks or Smallsy Coins earned from playing the game. When you first start Wipeout, you have 1 character already unlocked bringing the total number of characters to 6. You start off with Josie Burton (a female character).  Out of the 6 characters, 3 are female and 3 are male. Each of the characters feature a different skill set that will help you depending on which course you are running, so choose wisely. You can also purchase helmets for your characters using either Ballsy Bucks or Smallsy Coins, the same as buying new characters. The helmets can be used in-game to give you an added boost, helping you score better times and giving an upper hand against the clock. Some of the hats will put you into slo-mo mode or give you super jumping powers to help you soar like an eagle, if you activate them during the game.

Tidbits

You earn coins during the game that help you unlock new characters and allow the purchase of helmets to boost your player. There are also In-App purchases in the game if you do not feel like earning the coins and want to immediately get an advantage in the game. You can also purchase a 2x Smallsy Coin pack that will give you twice as many coins for Style points. Wipeout also connects with Game Center so you can view your scores versus your Game Center friends, or compete against them for the ultimate bragging rights. Unlock badges for pulling off neck-breaking wipeouts and completing courses in record times. Wipeout also features some social network integration which includes Twitter and Facebook. Tweet your high scores or brag about them by posting them on your Facebook wall.

The In-App Purchases are as followed:

  • $1.99 for 20 Ballsy Bucks

  • $4.99 for 60 Ballsy Bucks

  • $9.99 for 150 Ballsy Bucks

  • $2.99 for the 2x Smallsy Coins for Style Points

Final Thoughts

Overall Wipeout is a fantastic game, and if you have the patience for the Big Balls you will love it. The physics engine of Wipeout is superb, it feels very realistic and when you get wiped out it almost feels as if you are in the game. Wipeout is fun for the entire family and I highly recommend you check it out. Wipeout is currently rated 4 1/2 stars in the App Store. I have thoroughly enjoyed Wipeout these last couple days and I am sure I will enjoy Wipeout the months ahead, well if my iPad remains in 1 piece.
Wipeout is available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch and can be purchased in the iOS App Store for only $1.99

iPad File Sharing

This is a just a quick tip on how to use File Sharing on the iPad via iTunes.  "How do I share files from my iPad or to the iPad?" - I see this question asked a lot on Twitter and on the Apple.com support boards.

File Sharing:

  1. Connect your iPad to your Mac or Windows PC

  2. Open iTunes

  3. Select your iPad in the left panel

  4. Select Apps in the top menu

  5. Scroll down to the 'File Sharing' area

  6. Select your App

  7. Drag and drop your document or file (to or from)

  8. If you are dragging to the iPad, tap sync

You can share any type of file to the iPad, just remember not all applications will support all file types. A great example would be iMovie, you can easily import your videos to iMovie but the video file needs to be the correct file format or iMovie will not recognize it.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me on Twitter @totalipad

I also have a Facebook page:  Total iPad

Day One (Review)

Day One is a journal or diary application for the Mac, iPad and iPhone. It syncs beautifully between devices. It is a universal application for the iOS devices and it cost $1.99 for the iPad/iPhone. The Mac version is a little more expensive it is $9.99 but worth every penny. It offers password protection on both iOS and OSX platforms,   it uses iCloud or Dropbox to syncs notes/entries between devices. In my opinion this is the best journal application in the app store.

Share photos between iPad and iPhone

Last week I posted a video showing you how to beam photos in iPhoto, well everybody does not own the iPhoto app. Today I will show you how to share photos via iCloud and Photo Stream sync on your iPad and iPhone.

Photo Stream

First you are going to need to turn on iCloud on your iPad and iPhone, open the Settings application on your device, once that opens on the left side you will see a list of Settings, tap on iCloud. If iCloud is turned off or you have not set up iCloud you will need to do so. iCloud is free to use on any iOS device that is running iOS 5 or later, Apple gives each free iCloud account 5GB of storage. You can also purchase additional storage if you feel you need more storage on your device.

icloud

With iCloud turned on you will need to tap on the Photo Stream tab and when it opens you will need to slide the button to the right to turn Photo Stream "ON".

After you have turned Photo Stream on, navigate to the Settings menu on the left and slide down a little bit until you see the Photos option, select that. With that open you will see another option to turn on Photo Stream. Slide that to the right so that it is "ON".

photostream

After you have your iPad set up you will now need to do the same on your other iOS device (iPhone/iPod Touch/another iPad).

iphone

Photo Stream ON

Once you have this set up, photo you take will automatically appear in your Photo Stream tab section of your Photos app. You will also see this appear in other applications that have access to the photos on your device. A few things to note, Photo Stream only allows up to 1000 photos. After 1000 photos the oldest photos are replaced by the newest photos. This does not delete the photo off of the original device, they still will still appear in your Camera Roll on your iPhone or your Photos tab on your iPad.
